Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so that answer engines — AI assistants, voice assistants, and featured-answer boxes — select it as the answer they give. The term overlaps heavily with Generative Engine Optimization; AEO grew out of featured-snippet optimization, while GEO emphasizes LLM-generated answers.
In practice both disciplines converge on the same work: direct answers high on the page, clean structure machines can parse, specific liftable claims, and presence on the third-party sources engines trust.
