Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of increasing how often a brand is mentioned, cited, and recommended inside answers generated by AI systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Where SEO optimizes for a ranked list of links, GEO optimizes for a single synthesized answer — and whether your name appears in it.

GEO work spans two layers: the sources AI retrieves live (review sites, listicles, communities, your own pages) and the consensus baked into model training data. Both reward the same thing — being consistently and credibly described as a good answer across many independent sources. It is sometimes called Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) or AI SEO.
