PerplexityBot is the crawler Perplexity uses to discover and index web pages so they can be retrieved and cited in its answers. Because Perplexity cites sources inline on nearly every answer, being readable by PerplexityBot is a direct prerequisite for earning those citations.
Unlike training-only crawlers, PerplexityBot feeds a live retrieval engine, so allowing it has near-immediate visibility payoff: a newly crawled page can start appearing as a cited source within days. Blocking it opts your domain out of one of the most winnable AI citation surfaces.
